Take part in a unique bike expedition through the Juminda peninsula, where Lahemaa nature, living history and the tenacity of our forbears all intertwine. Narrow, winding ways lead though quaint villages and birch forests. We will pass along the rout of the 1941 mine battle, where 60 ships were sunk during the evacuation of the Soviet fleet and about 15 000 Red Army soldiers died. We will see the Juminda lighthouse, which has been recently renovated and continues to be an active navigational beacon. We will make a visit to a top secret Soviet naval port, now commonly know as the Hara submarine base, where soviet subs were demagnetized. We will also have a chance to learn about the activities of the Juminda Peninsula Association, which has created the first community radio station in Estonia, as well as helping with local law enforcement, sea rescue and local culture preservation.
